Fabric Banners create a unified cityscape that is an attractive welcome to visitors and a show of pride for residents who appreciate the community pride banners. Mettje designs banners for streetscapes, landscape design, interior design elements and outdoor and indoor
celebrations, using the color and motion of light translucent
fabric to create a whole effect. |

| Using banners to define a unified look animates
public spaces.
In 1991, the City of Durango, Colorado contracted banner artist
Mettje Swift to design fabric graphics in a unique nylon fabric bannerscape for the highway into
the City. This is a sustainable light pole banner public art project. It is value added for the community.
The artist designed banners are displayed
at two site specific locations. The first is the main street into Durango and
identifies the Durango Tourism Welcome Center. The second site
is on the bypass light poles and beautifies an otherwise plain street. Mettje designs for downtown beautification in collaboration with the City of Durango General Services department.
Banner Day Studio fabricates new seasonal banners each year, adding to
the seasonal banner collection and making it possible to rotate four seasonal displays
each year.
