Architectural Interior Art
Suspended Fabric Mobiles, Fabric Sculptures,
Tapestries, and Banner Sculptures, and
Suspended Banners
Artist and suspended sculptor Mettje Swift creates large-scale, lightweight kinetic fabric art and balanced fabric mobiles. These fabric banner sculptures are made of translucent nylon fabric over a stainless steel armature. The fabric mobiles float and turn the interior air currents, and the pure colors of the fabric react with natural and manmade light to enhance the atmosphere of interior atrium spaces. Mettje draws inspiration for the fine balance of her suspended mobile sculptures from the mobiles of Alexander Calder. Watch a slideshow.
The suspended banners, fabric sculptures and fabric mobile art are ideal for decorating atrium installations, entryways and entry spaces.
What do we call this kind of art? Fabric architectural art, architectural banners, fabric banner art and suspended sculptures, suspended banners, fabric mobiles, interior banners, floating sculptures...Whatever the term, they are light and eyecatching for decorating your atrium!
The fabric mobile sculptures are made from a number of individual elements, each hanging from varying heights, filling a space with gentle movement and color. An installation can fill large, open interior architectural spaces such as atriums, lobbies, entryways, hallways and rotundas.
Suspended installations can also include hanging fabric art or a tapestry. They serve to absorb sound as well as bring light, color and motion to the human environment.
Mettje works closely with interior designers, architects, art consultants and facility managers to design original art for site-specific public art installations.
